$175 burger: You want gold with that?

Its creators admit it is the ultimate in decadence: a $175 hamburger. The Wall Street Burger Shoppe just raised its price from $150 to assure its designation as the costliest burger in New York.

Are you kidding me? Who would spend $175 for a burger in this economy? Oh yeah, Wall Street fat cats.

If I had extra money to burn I'd try it just for the taste. The ingredients sound wonderful, but in good conscious, I'd really feel the need to the World Food Bank Organization to relieve any guilt for such a waste of money when so many people are starving.

lots of black truffles, seared foie gras, aged Gruyere cheese

I'm not even sure if I like any of these things, so I definitely wouldn't spend $175 to taste them all for the first time.

And no matter how many times I hear people swear that it's safe, eating gold flecks makes me think of heavy-metal poisoning. I get enough of that with my Pantera albums.

        aged Gruyere cheese

Gruyere cheese is very good, it's something I'll buy for a special dinner party, but not something I splurge on for everyday meals...actually, we don't eat a lot of cheese period, too much fat.

Truffles have a distint taste, they're "OK" but not out of this world delicious.

There are some things that are worth the calories and fat. If I eat something like that, it better taste REAL good, or it's not worth it. And, I do it rarely anyway, so once in a while, a little cheat, isn't going to cause a lot of damage.

Ok $175.- burger....and people are buying it, that is what is so wrong with our western society right now, we have no shame at spending this kind of money over something so overrated and decadent but yet everywhere you here more and more stories of people how are having the hardest time to even provide their family with just ONE basic meal. As the price of oil is steadily rising so are the hardship of the poor....and I am not just talking about the third world countries for which things have gone from bad to worst.....I am also thinking of the lower income american....the one how are working 2 jobs to be able to afford a roof on their head and food on their plate. You can hear of stories of people in Haiti that live on an income of barely a dollar a day but now can not afford to buy pasta or rice anymore because oil has risen the cost of even the most basic food...and yet their is no shame about spending a $175 dollar for a burger...what will it take for our society to finally wake up and realize that things like that are not what make us great human being....but that with the wealth we have we can do greater things, greater goods, even if it is just lending a hand to someone less fortunate than you in your city. People have lost respect for food because it is just too easy for us....So if you can pause for a minute and reflect on that.

I wrote that because i am a waitress in a restaurant, and every day I witness so much wasted food !!! it often sadden me, people complain all the time about their plate, they have become more picky every day, they just don't appreciate how fortunate they are to always have what they want in their plate as some could just be happy with what we do not want. I was born in korea a while ago when time where hard there but I was fortunate enough to be adopted... but back then I had suffer from malnutrition....you know I was one of those baby all skin and bone with a big belly!!! ....anyway now everyday I try to be thankful for the food I have and that other not so lucky can only dream off....so please think what better thing you can do with the price of a $175.- burger. ...a small step from you is a big step toward humanity!

Only in New York......... Perhaps this is a good illustration of how out of touch the New York mentality is with mainstream middle America? I am happy to live in fly-over America. Any metal on your burger bun here won't be gold; more likely it'll be rust from the closed industries that New York CEO's sent overseas.

This explains the mortgage crises, credit card debt, oil prices, etc. Excessive GREED ! While these people eat their $175 burger, I hope they remember about the starving people in the world that don't even make $175 as annual income. They are the first to make the news when there is a layoff. Like who really give a damn about them being laid off if they can afford $175 for a meal. The restaurant is not much better. That 'mine is better than yours' mentality has gotten our country into mega debt. Let those people have their taxes raised and pay for the debt so we can all live better.

Greed has been prevalent in our history for a very long time, although it seems that there are some who are becoming even more greedy. It's as if they're trying to see how to get people to spend money, trying every angle, every scheme possible and then some.

So sad that this is what our world is coming to and equally as sad that there are people who are getting sucked right into it.

OMG!!! IS THAT EVEN A REAL QUESTION??? IF I COULD AFFORD TO PAY $175 FOR A MEAL DO YOU REALLY THINK I WOULD ORDER A STUPID HAMBURGER OF ALL THINGS. IF I WANTED TO EAT A BURGER I COULD JUST GO TO MCDONALDS AND SAVE $174. IF I HAD THE MONEY TO EAT A $175 MEAL I ORDER LIKE A HUGE STEAK AT THE VERY LEAST. I DON'T CARE HOW EXPENSIVE THEY SAY THAT THE INGREDIENTS ARE A FREAKING BURGER IS NOT WORTH IT. IF THEY REALLY WANTED TO USE THOSE EXPENSIVE INGREDIENTS THEN PUT IT ON SOMETHING THAT IS EVEN WORTH ORDERING. BESIDES CHANCES ARE WITH THE OBESITY IN OUR COUNTRY IN A BIG PERSON WOULD EAT IT THEY WOULD MOST LIKELY BE HUNGRY AGAIN WITHIN MAYBE 2-3 HOURS. AND AGAIN LIKE WHAT SO MANY PEOPLE ARE SAYING...HOW CAN WE AS HUMANS EVEN LIVE WITH OURSELFS AFTER SPENDING THAT MUCH MONEY ON A SINGLE "LUNCH" MEAL WHEN THEIR ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE YOU CAN'T EVEN AFFORD A FRIGGIN' PIECE OF THE CHEAPEST BREAD OUT THERE AND I'M NOT JUST TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE IN OTHER COUNTRIES EITHER I'M ALSO TALKING ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO ARE WATCHING YOU EAT THAT BURGER FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WINDOW WISHING THAT THEY COULD GET JUST EVEN A SMALL MORSEL OF ANYTHING. I'M TALKING ABOUT THE PEOPLE THAT ARE CONSIDERED CRIMINALS BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO STEAL FOOD JUST TO SURVIVE, WELL YOU KNOW WHAT THE PEOPLE THAT CHARGE THAT MUCH FOR A STUPID BURGER ARE THE REAL CRIMINALS. I PERSONALLY HOPE THAT THEY DIE ALONE AND SUFFER JUST AS MUCH AS THOSE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE LIVING IN POVERTY AND COULDN'T AFFORD A $1 BURGER FROM MCDONALDS IF THEIR LIVES DEPENDED ON IT. AND PEOPLE WONDER WHY OTHER COUNTRIES THINK THAT AMERICA IS AN EVIL COUNTRY...ITS BECAUSE WE ARE GREEDY AND GUESS WHAT GREED JUST SO HAPPENS TO BE ONE OF THE 7 DEADLY SINS.

$175.00 hamburger? The apocalypse is definitely near....does it come with fries and Coke?

You've got to be kidding.....I love a good meal and fine dining but this is ridiculous. Shame on Wall Street! People are starving, jobless, losing their homes and some jerk has the mindless nerve to order a burger for that price! What is wrong with these people? Get real people....put your money in the bank....donate to charity.....help the homeless.....find a cause to donate to that makes you feel good the next day when you wake up......I hope they all choke on the gold flecks. Oh, one more thing. If I had a lawyer, stock broker, financial adviser that told me he ordered a gold burger, I'd find another advise, lawyer, stock broker and move my money asap. That would tell me that this guy has no common sense AT ALL! Digesting!

I don't get why people put metals in their food/drinks...Didn't they learn from the failed Chinese alchemists that ingesting these kinds of metals doesn't do anything, and it is realy pompous. $175 for one burger???? Anyone who buys that should be smacked with an open palm, and then get another one on the backside of the hand because the burger is over 5X the actual price. AMERICANS ARE STUPID!!! This just proves it...

This is another example of Nero fiddling while Rome burns. Think of the homeless and otherwise disadvantaged who pass by this diner every day - shame on those who can be so selfish while their fellow humans suffer.

Revolutions have been triggered by less than this. I'm all for capitalism, but $175 for a burger because some can afford to spend this much and make a "statement" to that effect? These people are idiots or selfish jerks, even if it is their money. Give the money to a school or hospital or orphanage or other charity. Think of the misery going on in the world - millions homeless or starving, losing their homes or jobs, or suffering from disease - and these dopes ingest $175 at one end and expell it from the other. It's the "other end" they deserve to be equated with.

I agree. This $175 burger thing reminds me of the "Let them eat cake" statement from Marie Antoinette to the starving people of France right before the French Revolution. Are you aware of that one day gasoline tax amnesty that McCain and Clinton are pushing for? The price of a gallon of gas has gone up 400% in the last 8 years and their answer is to give you about $1.50 back for a single day, assuming you filled up a 15 gallon tank. I saw Evan Bayh (yet another multi-millionaire senator) talking about how wonderfull that $1.50 is. These people have 0 shame.

The $175 burger is of course to serve the same people on Wallstreet who gave us the Savings & Loan mess of the 1980's (remember Neil Bush the president brother?) the current mortage meltdown and while a tiny number of these guys have gotten more wealthy than the Pharohs while the US economy is teetering on verge of economic collapse. The $175 burger is just another way for them to rub in our face how wealthy they are same as the $2,000 shoes, $10,000 suits and all the rest of it.

These people are incredibly wealthy while you are getting laid off your job and loosing your home and they damned well want you to know it!
